“The Boy and the Heron” wins the Oscar for best animated feature
Hayao Miyazaki won his second Oscar in 2024, more than twenty years after the one he won for “Spirited Away.”

Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, “The Boy and the Heron,” won the Oscar for best animated feature at the March 2024 ceremony.
It is the second Oscar for the director and for Studio Ghibli: the first went to “Spirited Away,” which won in 2003.
Miyazaki did not attend the ceremony in Los Angeles. The film, partly inspired by the director's own childhood, tells the story of Mahito, a boy who, after losing his mother during the war, ventures into a fantastical world guided by a mysterious heron.
The award comes after the film also won the Golden Globe for best animated motion picture that same year.
